India is a market tailor-made for Xiaomi. It is the second largest smartphone market in the world, but hampered by a low per capita income, older high-end phones are big sellers in the country. And so are new devices hawked by Xiaomi, which has become the top smartphone brand in India. Xiaomi is known for selling high-spec'd phones with a low profit margin because the company makes its bread from selling content, not hardware. Still, the Chinese manufacturer does depend on the ability of Indian consumers to perceive value when it comes to its phones.
